Some of the most modern cardiac catheterization technology available anywhere... featuring the unsurpassed Toshiba Infinix DP. That's part of the first rate cardiac care that Marshall Medical Centers has brought from home to the people of our community. We've combined the latest technology with a highly trained, caring team of professionals, all dedicated to providing advanced cardiac cath procedures that can help you beat heart disease.

Understanding Cardiovascular Procedures
Cardiac Catheterization - This procedures involves inserting a small needle into an artery in the groin area. A plastic tube is then inserted to protect the blood vessel during the procedure. At this point, a special catheter is inserted through the tube to go to different areas of the body and provide x-ray images of the blood vessels. During a heart catheterization, specific arteries around the heart are examined to look for narrowing or blockage.

Vascular Procedures - Vascular procedures involve the same type of catheter insertion as in cardiac cath. However, vascular procedures are used to examine blood vessels in almost any part of the body. A "vascular study" can be done on veins and arteries throughout the body to determine whether there are problems with blood flow, and to find out what is causing the problem.

Interventional Procedures - An "interventional" procedure is done to treat a patient who has a narrowing or blockage in a blood vessel. Special wires and/or inflatable balloons are inserted through the catheter to clear the blockage or eliminate narrowing. Currently, Marshall Medical Centers only performs interventional procedures on the arm, leg and abdomen.
